About Edward

Edward Murray was born in 1970 and raised in southern California during the tough times of the nineteen eighties and nineties. He grew up in an economically challenged neighborhood with gangs, drugs and violence. Sometimes he would choose to participate in certain activities and then would find relief or therapy from the difficult situations by writing, drawing or taking pictures. He was nick named Stranger because of being away from the neighborhood on many different occasions. Barbara Lewis sang a song named, "Hello Stranger," this became his adopted name. His last stay in jail provided an opportunity for a reduced sentence in exchange for enlistment in the US Army. He spent ten years in the US Army, where among other things he met and married his wife. He left the US Army with an honorable discharge in 2001 and attended dive school in Los Angeles, California. They eventually settled on the east side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They celebrated twenty-one years of marriage in July of 2014. His loves and interests are family and friends, poetry, cars, art and photography.
Stranger is the author of Stranger's Pilgrimage. Stranger is a contributor to Dionne's Story, the first and second anthology of poetry and prose for the awareness of violence against women. He is a member, and past president, of the Langston Hughes Poetry Society of Pittsburgh. His poetry has appeared in Writer's Block at the Soulpitt as well as several other publications, including most recently , "Uppagus" and "The Brentwood Library Anthology." He is a member, and past president, of the Langston Hughes Poetry Society of Pittsburgh.  He is an artist, photographer and poet and his work can be seen and heard regularly at the Braddock Carnegie Library and all around Pittsburgh.  Edward welcomes feedback from his readers.

Pomegranate Projects

The Pomegranate Project is comprised of local artists, of different mediums, that come together for the inspiration of art making and sharing. The group varies depending on the people who would like to participate with the project at that time though the group has included: literary artists, poets, photographers, painters, singers, filmmakers and musicians.
The Pomegranate Project is named as such as a pomegranate quenches ones thirst for art. Poetry is savoring each bite, reading a poem is sharing the taste (sweet or bitter) with others, art is the pomegranate. The flowers of the pomegranate are bright red, 3cm in diameter, with four or five petals. The edible fruit is a berry and is somewhere between a lemon and a grapefruit in size with a rounded hexagonal shape and has thick reddish skin and around 600 seeds. Each seed has a surrounding water-laden pulp, the edible aril, ranging in color from white to deep red or purple. The seeds are embedded in a white spongy astringent pulp. Some seeds represent the different mediums of art and some represent the craft associated with each of the arts. Each seed is water-laden edible pulp. Each seed quenches ones thirst.  The Pomegranate Project also recognizes there are other ways to enjoy art: Potato skins-recognize the elements of craft used in art-skins loaded with cheddar cheese, bacon, sour cream and sprinkled with green onions.

Chilled smoked salmon-choose passionate subject matter-pumpernickel bread, hot smoked salmon covered with chives.

Apricot Canapés-unleashing imagination-sun dried apricots, crumbled blue cheese, local clover honey, lightly peppered and topped with pistachios.

Butterscotch Ice Cream-critique and revise- made from scratch using only the finest ingredients, mouth-watering bite after bite

German Chocolate Cheesecake-finding and developing new inspirations, ideas and sources-rich chocolate cheesecake with Oreo cookie crust smothered with pecan icing, vanilla ice cream melted with hot maple fudge.

Please email me if you are interested in organizing a project and/ or would like to be involved in one. Please note there is dedication required by all participants during the entire time of the project. The project usually would consist of (please note that this is a very brief description) inspiration, art creation, critique/ revision accordingly, researching/ booking with interested venues and then presenting completed works.
